As far as unsolicited opinions go, this is the last from the 2007-2008 Collegian editorial staff. Conveniently, our topic is unsolicited opinions (the bread and butter of the Collegian Weekly). Nobody asks us what we think (maybe that's a problem), yet because of newspaper tradition and journalism standards, we opined once per week during the school year, without fail. (0) comments

Recycling not inherently virtuous

So check out the stats before you toss that paper in the recycling bin

The environmental goody-two-shoes have lied to us. Our entire lives they've told us that recycling is an all around good. But when it's put under scrutiny the golden calf of the environmentalist movement reveals itself as merely fool's gold. Because the process of recycling requires more energy and resources than it conserves. (1) comment

Ben Stein's new documentary, "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," hit theaters Friday. The film endeavors to expose the abuses of the academy, the courts and the media in the debate on intelligent design. I had hoped Stein would provide freshness to an over-battled issue by focusing not on arguments but on the miscommunication between both sides. (5) comments

I have this list. I know I always write lists in my columns, but this one stands out. It's a sports-themed list: "Top Sporting Events I Have Witnessed Live." A few of these are shoo-ins, like the Tigers and White Sox game Tony Gonzalez (a fairly rabid Sox fan) and I attended in 2006, where Craig Monroe hit the game-winning grand slam in the sixth. Recently, a Facebook group advocating book burning claimed to be speaking for the Catholic Church at large. As president of the Catholic student association on this campus, I felt compelled to clarify the Catholic Church's position, and thus, the position of the Hillsdale College Catholic Society with regards to this issue.
