Ok, so what did you expect?
The United States men's national soccer team never scored against the Dutch coming into this week's international friendly, but the US played quite nicely against one of the best teams in the world. Before you crinkle up this paper because I am going writing another soccer column, understand that this sport means so much too many of us living around this nation.

The speculation as to who will be DePaul's new head basketball coach is at an all-time high. Since Jerry Wainwright's midseason firing, DePaul has stayed quiet in terms of who they are looking at as a potential coaches.
Athletic Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto has simply said that they will explore all available options and determine what is best for them.

"Charity will not solve the world's problems, we need international solidarity," said Joel Novak, president of the Social Justice Club, at halftime of the charity basketball game put on by the men of Alpha Psi Lambda and Kappa Alpha Psi to raise funds for the relief efforts in Haiti.

Team USA had the highest medal count in the history of the Olympic Winter Games with 37 total medals. And rightly so, Canada got its gold medals for hockey--as the Americans would win gold for American football or basketball.

The NCAA basketball championship tournament is unpredictable - to a point.
Every year, there are new contenders and surprising upsets, but there are also a few things you can set your watch to. "Oh, it's March? It's Madness? It's the traditional powerhouses marching through the tournament!"
This year, the Chicago Flame expects three perennial contenders to be at or near the top by the end of the season and predicts that one team will break through and have a great run.

Ah, March Madness.
College playoffs as God intended.
How can the National Collegiate Athletics Association get the annual College Football Bowl Championship Series so wrong and get the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship tournament so right?
Each and every single March, the NCAA sets its college basketball teams against each other in a tournament to determine the undisputed champion of the league.

Both football and volleyball finished up their conditioning programs last week. The volleyball team wrapped up their six-week conditioning program while the football team finished up their two-week program. Both begin to prepare this week for spring ball.

Muddy Waters Stadium is jam-packed for another Hillsdale College football game, the crowd eagerly waiting for their beloved Chargers to emerge from the tunnel and take the field. Soon, it would be game time.
In the tunnel, the players lightly hop, twist at the waist and pull their knees up into their stomach, mentally psyching themselves up - anything to get ready for the game.

March Madness, college basketball's nationwide playoff system, is perennially the most popular postseason system, but it may be about to change. Sure, the possibility of expanding the 65-team bracket garners some discussion every year, but this year is different.

The UIC Men's Basketball season ended on a disappointing note last Tuesday with a 73-67 loss against Milwaukee. UIC drew The Panthers for the first round of the Horizon League Championships, but unfortunately for the Flames, the first stop was also the end of the line.

The Denison women's softball team ended their 2009 season in somewhat of a disappointing fashion.
Although they captured last year's regular season North Coast Athletic Conference crown, they were ousted in the semi-finals of the NCAC Tournament, which ended their chances to make the NCAA Tournament.

This is right where the UDM women's basketball team expected to be.
Even after the pre-season rankings said they would finish eighth in the conference, even after injuries cut their roster to eight and even after they started the season 2-9, the Titans know they have what it takes to win the Horizon League championship.

It was supposed to be a good night. Curtis Eatmon was supposed to be celebrating his first game in a Detroit Titans basketball jersey. It was Oct. 30, and Eatmon was making the most of his chance with a Division I club, coming off the bench for coach Ray McCallum.

With spring break quickly approaching, some
Miami University students are taking drastic
measures to look good for their long-awaited
vacation. Expectations of wearing a swimsuit and
heading to the beach cause some people to conform
to dangerous diets, exhilarating workouts and
repetitive visits to indoor tanning salons. "It's crazy what some people do to prepare for a
week of vacation," sophomore Colin Pyle says.
"I think people go pretty extreme, which is so
unnecessary."

Sportscenter's opening jingle sounded a lot different to me the other morning for some reason. It couldn't have been anchor Stuart Scott's "boo-yah." It wasn't the newest Twitter update about Tiger's trip back home. Watching the normal dazzling dunks, a super serving of slap-shots, and the highlights of the "Top Ten Plays" wasn't it either.

The Windy City, hot summer weather, Lake Michigan and the skyline should be enough to lure a big time free agent to Chicago this upcoming off-season, but who will that be?
Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh are at the top of everyone's Christmas list this summer, but will any of them grant Chicago's wish? The people in Chicago are certainly hoping and so is Chicago Bulls superstar, Derrick Rose.

NASCAR has seen its fair share of good racers including, but not limited to: Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, and Dale Jarrett. But only a handful of these racers have had what it takes to be called "great." One of the greatest, whose life was unfortunately cut short, is Dale Earnhardt--but is there someone better than he was? The young Jimmie Johnson is coming up through the ranks and is beginning to establish himself as one of the top racers, but is he becoming a legend?
Looking at Earnhardt's history, he started out in 1979 and won rookie of the year.
